Cutting boards primarily from maple, walnut or cherry

Just out of high school, Peter Zuerner found his passion: working with wood to build elegant furniture pieces and to craft beautiful kitchen cabinets and more.

When he began an ongoing battle with chronic Lyme disease 10 years ago (now at a manageable level), friends started a fund-raising blog to pay for his treatment; and when he began to feel healthy enough to work again, he began to make Gratitude Boards “to give back”—5% of their sales are donated to a half dozen charities.

These Zuerner Made cutting/serving boards are made primarily from maple, walnut or cherry, initially created from Zuerner’s leftover scraps but now made from “cut-off wood” ordered from Pennsylvania and finished with mineral oil and beeswax. Shaped as squares, rectangles, with or without handles, one has grooves in the sides for catching, for example, the juices of a holiday turkey. All boards have rubber feet on the bottom. Perhaps the most interesting board is called “live-edge,” from the way it was shaped on the tree.

Available at the Coastal Growers’ Market, Aquidneck Island Growers’ Market, Stock Culinary Goods and at the Zuerner showroom. 656 Ten Rod Rd., North Kingstown. 401.578.8284; ZuernerMade.MyShopify.com
