“Small State, Big Flavor.” That’s the motto of Fox Point Pickling. Using a special technique and a unique blend of spices, the company fully delivers on its promise of a crisp, flavorful, handcrafted pickle that Rhode Islanders can be proud to call their own.

When a friend shared a flyer advertising Hope & Main, Ziggy Goldfarb was intrigued enough to attend an informational session. He quickly realized that he wanted to be a part of the incubator and filled out an application. After submitting his application, Ziggy was laid off from his job. He decided that it was a sign from the universe that it was time to make his pickle business a full-time gig.

As with any small business venture, the learning curve is steep, and Ziggy is thankful for the many ways in which Hope & Main has helped to make his business stronger and more successful. Access to a commercial kitchen space, with all the necessary appliances, has been crucial but it is the community and the atmosphere of learning and sharing that have proved so invaluable.

“Hope & Main has received so much support from the wider community, all of whom want to see it succeed,” Ziggy says.

Whenever possible, cucumbers and habaneros are sourced from local farms, though the seasonality of the crops makes it hard to source locally year-round. Ziggy is currently in talks with some local farms to grow larger amounts exclusively for Fox Point Pickling’s use this upcoming season.

As one of the first Hope & Main companies to hit the market, Fox Point Pickling Company has been a shining example of what’s possible when a small business receives robust community support. Recently, Ziggy was included in a small roundtable with fellow innovators and Governor Raimondo. As Ziggy puts it, “That’s a big deal for the brand new pickle on the block.”
